Homemade Chex Mix

December 16, 2019      msollie862@gmail.com      Leave a Comment

Chex mix was a big thing when i was growing up! We always made it around the holidays and it always reminds me of my Grandma Jo. She always had some for us when we came over to the house! The best way to make this is in the oven- NOT the microwave! I love chex mix because you can add all sorts of other things into depending on what you or your kids like and dislike, Also around Christmas you can add some red and green m & m’s and give to friends and family. So a great Salty snack!

Here’s what you’ll need…

3-4-cups Corn Chex® cereal
3-cups Rice Chex® cereal
3-cups Wheat Chex® cereal
3- cups of Cheerios
1 1/2 cup of peanuts
1-2 cup bite-size pretzels
*You can also add 1 cup of M&M’s, Gold fish, Bagel chips, or Cheeze its. Be Creative!
8-tablespoons butter or margarine
2-tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon of chili powder
1 1/2- tablespoons of seasoned salt by LOWRY’S- also more for every-time you mix in the oven
1 1/2-teaspoons of garlic powder
1/3-teaspoon onion powder

First, add all your dry ingredients into a huge roasting pan or pans! Mix them all up together. (I DOUBLED THIS BATH IN THE PICTURES)

Next in a sauce pan whisk together butter, Worcestershire, garlic powder, onion powder, and seasoned salt. Mix for about 10 minutes.

Pour your sauce mixture over the chex mix a little a time, making sure you are spreading it evenly by mixing it around. Mix, pour sauce, repeat! Sprinkle more season salt over top and place in the oven at 275 for 1 hour. Mix chex mix around every 15 mins and sprinkle more season salt on top every time you mix it.

Its just that easy and super fun for kiddos to help as well! Place in a tup-aware or plastic bags to keep fresh! Enjoy!
